This eLearning course has many modules.  You must complete each module in order.

Section 1: What is a Respectful Workplace?

We all have the right to work in an environment that is respectful and a responsibility to treat everyone at work with consideration.

A respectful workplace:

  • Is inclusive
  • Values diversity
  • Provides clear communication on expectations of behaviour
  • Promotes employee health and safety
  • Provides resources and training to resolve disputes
  • Strives for improvement
  • Has open channels of communication

The environment should be supportive and understanding of everyone's needs. Each individual has a responsibility to treat others at work with consideration, respect, and patience in order for the workplace culture to thrive on positivity. Communication is key when it comes to determining what behaviour will not be accepted or tolerated by management while empowering employees through training so that they feel comfortable sharing their opinions without fear of harassment from other coworkers.

What Does the Law Say?

The law is very clear on what constitutes bullying, harassment and discrimination.

First of all, let me tell you that a bully has the intention to harm or cause distress in their target. For example, if someone posts defamatory comments about an individual with the intent to humiliate them then this would be considered cyber-bullying. Harassment can also happen online; it's when one person sends unpleasant messages repeatedly with no end goal other than causing trouble which may include threats such as blackmailing etc., we'll get into more detail later but these are just some examples of how things might go down. Discrimination happens when there is unequal treatment going on due to race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity etc.  We'll talk more about these protected characteristics.

Workplace Conflict

Conflict happens anytime people work together. Conflict is a normal natural part of human interaction in the workplace however it can decrease morale, increase absenteeism, and decrease productivity.

Courageous Conversations

A courageous conversations is thought of to be a discussion that is often difficult and uncomfortable. There are often emotions on both sides of the conversation and and can be awkward, stressful, or challenging situations.

The Aircraft

During WWII, the Airforce tried to determine where they needed to armor their aircraft to ensure they came back home.
